The Importance of Privateering in North America
Boston, Salem, Newbury Port, Philadelphia, and New London are some of the same ports that were most successful prior to the American Revolution. They are where a lot of the merchant shipping came in and out of. So it made sense that the ports that I mentioned and some others, Providence to some extent, became havens for privateering. You're going to go where you have the capital, the resources, and the labor that could sustain privateering.
