Republicans have lost whatever mantle they might have claimed to be the spokesman for fiscal responsibility. But of course, Republicans have been in this position before. At the end of George W. Bush's second term in office, they had arguably lost a lot of credibility on fiscal issues. The recent infrastructure bill is basically talked about as a compromise by partisan piece of legislation.
