The Mo'atazalite God in the Book of Job
Zaidya borrowed extensively from the contemporary Muslim theologians, known as the Mo'atazalites. As self-styled upholders of divine justice, they wanted above all to avoid admitting that God would ever deal unfairly with his creatures. Saidya lived too early to see this opposition become entrenched in Islamic Kalam, but it was well known to later Jewish philosophers,.
