The Role of HSCs in Emergency Situations
Emergency hematopoiesis does not depend on HSCs, according to a new study. In the case of a manageable emergency, you may call and wake them up, but it's only when a major crisis occurs that they will actually show up on your doorstep for help. More work is needed in looking at markers of HSC activation following perturbations which could lead to useful interventions.
