3MMA was built out of the design of Nackel, the supposedly high-level cryptograph. 3MMA uses salsa and polythertino 5, a stream cipher. It's an AEAD, like a classic AEAD thing, right? So those primitives are good choices. And 3MMA also is using like an AEAD cipher for this. Just straight out of the Nackel library.
