Alvin plantinga argues that if you buy evolution by natural selection as your assumption then then none of our cognitive capacities are reliable. The argument only holds for perceptual systems not for logic and reason, according to Hoffman. In fact there's a different tack among cognitive scientists who use the self-defeating argument against hoffman but i'm perfectly fine with using evidence to test theories says Hoffman.
