Joseph Bolon was born to an aristocratic colonists and plantation owner, Charles Bolon. His mother was enslaved and his father is a noble, so he inherits his father's name. He went to France to go to school in 1748 - unusual as most children spend their lives in the Caribbean. The Chevalier de Stange George also had a daughter, and like most French aristocrats, with illegitimate, dual heritage children, Joseph's father gave his son his name.
