The Importance of the Rule of Law
I'm a Scott of Irish origins. My grandpians got out of Ireland at the turn of the century. They had got out because of poverty but also because bad things were happening. Some of my grandparents were from Northern Ireland and if you're a Catholic Northern Ireland then your options were not terrific. I was conscious of the prejudice there was towards Irish people in Britain. And many of those people let me tell you there was the Guilford 4 17 years spent in prison. We have young people who do this young wonderful lawyers. Training people in other countries around the whole business of the use of torture, coercive interrogation, threats to your family and so on.
