Why the Salamander Needs Plants

Some of the most insidious plants that we deal with, we call them ecologically invasive. They're native to the landscape, but they don't belong in the density in the places they are now. And there's kind of a negative feedback cycle where they just continue to keep fire out because they're so hard to burn. So what happens is, when the shrubs occupy the entire basin of a pond, they completely shade out the water column. It causes a whole range of negative ecological consequences for not only all the plants, but also the salamanders and the crayfish and the dragon flies.
