The Aspiration of Fairness and Impartiality Isn't the Same
The self-conception of journalists that I've known is that we are objective. That means a bunch of bullshit that's baked into that, to be sure. But the mistake is to assume is to mischaracterize the self-conceptions of people. It's important to know who you're talking about and how they perceive their work.
