Michael Levin acknowledged he's a great believer in teleology but he's thinking of teleology from a strictly technological viewpoint. His research has indicated that they figure out where by talking to each other through these bioelectric signals so they go over there and they start building an arm. He said the really mysterious thing is they know when to stop they know when they've gotten to the ultimate arm. It seems that outside of the human realm most organisms follow that plan unless something like cancer intervenes.
