The Problems With African Airlines
African governments have been discussing how to improve air connectivity and regulate the service since the 1980s. All of them are owned by single wealthy individuals who can only sustain the airline for so long in a capital intensive industry. If you plan to grow, you need joint ventures with large carriers. So none of these problems are new. It's partly a political issue, because every government in Africa wants to see their flag flying on the back of the tail of an aircraft that Heathrow or JFK airport.
