The too many thinkers problem is one that arises for what are called complex views of personal identity. The simple view of personal identity is that your soul, or your mind, is always you. But there can't be two of you, because two things cannot be one thing. And this has been developed even further when we consider what's necessary for consciousness. According to materialism, it must be having the right kind of a neuro neurological complexity. So then, why aren't you many consciousnesses at one time, likewise overtime?
