Platelets preserve the integrity of injured blood vessel walls by forming hemo static clots. Platelets also have important functions in the inflammatory response. They recruit and activate leucosites into the area of inflamed tissue, scavenge micro organisms to prevent pathagen spread or present anygens to adaptive immune cells. The exact mechanism by which single platelets close the inflammation induced endo thelial holes and preserve vascular integrity is not completely understood.
