This frustrated the men enough that one of them destroyed the oven Walker's cook used to bake his bread. As the days and weeks rolled on, soldiers began to desert. Others fell sick and died. Arguments over the unequal distribution of stolen horses led some of the remaining men to the brink of mutiny.
