China does not welcome this war, and at least chinese diplomats, but seems startled initially. Then they settled quite quickly into a stance that seems more comfortable for china which is officially high minded at neutrality. The sad reality is that the chinese commonist party doesn't have particularly strong views about who runs ukraine. And as a result, out china has avoided calling russia the aggressor in this conflict.
China appears content to let the carnage continue in Ukraine, anticipating a win for Vladimir Putin. Its real concern is avoiding an apparent win for America and the West. Never mind fears that cryptocurrencies might help Russia dodge sanctions: they are far better at helping to finance Ukraine’s efforts. And the cyborg cockroaches that may one day aid search-and-rescue operations.
