Ford is trying to patent a technology that would allow self-driving cars to lock you out and drive itself back to the car lot. Ford says it filed the patent for this technology because it wants to have a way to both penalize and incentivize people who miss car payments, which are at their highest since 2006. But as Ford and other companies potentially move forward with this remote control technology, they're opening themselves and you up to the possibility that others will try to shut down that car too.
