The Importance of Organic Farming in the UK
Joe Lewis is policy director of the Soil Association, a charity campaigning for nature-friendly farming. He says you could transform all of the UK and Europe's farms to organic farming but not support unhealthy diets that are heavily reliant on industrial livestock farming. Half of our crop land is producing grain for intensive poultry, pig farming, dairy farming and more again of our land is diverted into producing biofuels. What we're calling for is a level of ambition for growing organic in line with Europe's commitment to 25% of farmland being organic.
