Petrograd Soviet - A History of the Russian Revolution
By October 1917, the Bolsheviks gained ground in the Petrograd Soviet. Lenin returns to the city disguised as a railway worker. He convenes a secret meeting at the party's central committee. Concerned that the coming Congress will dilute the power of the Bolsheviks and rob them of their chants,. he forces through a decision to seize power ahead of the conference. Trotsky, who wants to have the mandate of the people behind any coup, abstains. Tomorrow comrades from all over the country will congregate for a critical meeting. According to rumours, it's tonight that something really big is going to happen.
