The Importance of State Support in High-Tech Firms
There's a long track record of state management of high-tech firms in China not doing very well. Arguably, as an ongoing enterprise, maybe it would be better for SMIC to focus on slightly less advanced nodes and more operational efficiency. The Chinese state doesn't really react well to new information in the marketplace with appropriate speed. It does encourage political entrepreneurship that entrepreneurs can engage in.
