The Myth of the Irish Slave

Having a servant was nothing out of the ordinary in new york. The myth is persistent that it was always the irish servant, but it was really a little more complex than that. There were also many german servants, scandinavians. You know, later on it became italian, eastern european. At some point, it was so hard to find a good servant. I mean, probably every ethnic group that came to new york city, that emigrated here at one point became members that were employed in households.
