The Global Pandemic of Omicron
Omicron is an excellent example of how important it is that we encourage the ability to do sequencing and genomic surveillance. If south africa had not been so open in sharing its sequences, if it had not had the capability that it has then we might not have found about omicron until we saw cases start to rise a week or two weeks later. I personally am disappointed that we haven't done more as a global community to empower countries by getting sequencing to so that they can use this,. Not only to combat their local pandemic, but to help us all with the global pandemic as well.
