The Mystery of the Restoration of the Church
I've always felt like English Christianity started to die with the destruction of the monasteries. That was the point at which the church effectively became the world. I do have a feeling that monasticism and hermeticism is absolutely central to the faith. Like you say in the West, it's not exactly died, but it certainly faded away. Maybe the return of that will change things.
