The Negative Sides of Choice
People like the idea of choice, don't they? They like the idea that they might have some say in where they're treated and when they're treated. It's this kind of strange consumerisation of the NHS, isn't it? And the counter to that is, well, if my local hospital is efficiently run and has sufficient investment, I won't need to go on an app. My local hospital will be able to buck me in in a timely fashion and deliver my elective surgery. Yeah, that to me is where we need to get to. That's the aspiration. So in both these schemes, we're talking about pragmatic things that emerge because something is going wrong somewhere.
