The Differences Between eCPR and VA ECMO
Most other VA ECMO patients, we're going to be more carefully screened for their prognosis and don't have nearly the same risk. A patient who's had the insult of cardiac arrest could have no heart function at all for the first 72 hours or even longer depending on how long the stun lasts. So what is the approach to managing this in these patients? You just have to decide that after X amount of time and whatever neuro prognostication tools you care to use, they're not waking up, then you're just going to take them off the pump.
