Every person develops their own version of the language they speak. There's no single authority, although some languages are attempting to create some sort of official body for regulating language. Each of us is different with different levels of skill, different ways of doing things. But we don't be over enough. We can still play the language game successfully.
Morten Christiansen is Professor of Psychology at Cornell University and Nick Chater is Professor of Behavioural Science at Warwick Business School. Hosting the discussion is journalist Christine Ro, whose work covers areas ranging from science and culture to international development.
