The Tosaniki Is a Good Diary

The tosaniki was written by a woman during the haon period of Japan. It is interspersed with poetry composed either by the author or others in their party. The text gives us an interesting view of the social role of poetry. Also brings some of the style of waka poetry into prose, representing an interesting blending of ganras that would be very influential in future iterations of japanese literature.
