There have been lots of cultures that have practiced human sacrifice, but much of it is propaganda. In the Middle Ages hundreds of thousands of European women were accused of being witches and they were either burned alive or tortured to death. The most popular book in Europe at that time was the Malayus Maleficarum,. It was a manual on how to accuse somebody, a woman of being a witch.
