A whopping 121 million people are under heat alerts today, according to the National Weather Service. The heat index in South Florida has been above 100 consistently for a record 40 straight days now. In Phoenix, temperatures clamped to 119 degrees yesterday, the hottest it's been since 2017. At least 18 people have died from heat-related causes already this year.
