Is Justice an Inherent Part of the Universe?

The idea that justice is an intrinsic part of the universe which needs to be maintained and balanced for cosmic or divine sons, is pretty foreign to us now. In the story of edipus, when a plague struck thebes, its cause was plain to see, some one had killed king laius, and his murderer had never been caught. An unsolved murder could lead to hauntings, demons, famines, wars, all sorts of badness. And there's no one succinct explanation for why they were such a rage. But it seems to me like the best way of getting inside the mind set is not to focus on attitudes towards animals, but towards justice.
