Biodiesel - I Wish It Were True
There are alternatives to many of these things. For instance, there is biodiesel. So you can essentially synthesize the heavier components of diesel using things like soy beans and other agricultural products. The biodiesel, it turns out, is not as energy dense as the diesel from petroleum. It also turns out that it's corrosive to the engine when you when you put it in.
