The Business of Merchants in the Early Modern Period

In the book, i describe how certain cities which became especially associated with commercial activity were also information centers. The letters that ambassadors and other statesmen start writing are very much modelled on the sort of mercantesqa a way of writing a of letters of correspondence. One person who makes this explicit is francis bacon, who whose approaches to organizing knowledge very much had origins in the practices of keeping ledgers and of waste books that merchants very much did. I think what what was particularly striking to me was how influential these practices actually were.
