The authors talk about the sort of self-presentational strategies that are present in these different kinds of responses. The confession one, they argue like fits with this sort of like Western and maybe sort of liberal practice of if we confess something, then we're like sort of absolved of it. It's like, oh, we're capable of admitting something, which yeah, somehow seems better than maintaining that we don't have that flaw at all.
