The Power of Childhood Experiences
I don't think today Hasidic boys are getting those kinds of beatings. Corporal punishment still happens. It does. But it's much, much less. And it is because parents have spoken out. I always grew up with a profound sense of injustice that I was a child. So it's very possible that kind of push me in a certain direction as part of a multitude of factors,. But it definitely shaped me and I have scars of that. To this day, mental scars, I do have, I've been diagnosed with anxiety and depression and part of it is genetic and Ashkenazi Jews in particular have prone to these kinds of things.
