The Muse in Homer's Odyssey

Pindar is interesting because he's hemming the achievements of a particular individual male, whether a boy or an adult male. He regularly refers to the muses in order to develop new versions of mythology. The muse can both be an inspirer, but also used as a way of talking about your poetry. When did the idea of that being a muse become just technophagranted and all the perts? You just took it for granted that there was a muse around whatever you were doing.
