Sally Kohn: My father told me to go into HR. So I got a business degree, and then started my career in HR as an HR coordinator for a staffing agency that specialized in nurses. She says getting into the field of HR can be difficult; you have to have something that sets you apart. Kohn: Modern human resources started around the 19th century or 1800s during the Industrial Revolution.
