Is Picking at the Person's Flaws Helpful?
Trying to find all the things wrong with them might seem like that' somehow helpful, validating for you. But again, it's putting all of this focus on needing to define yourself by them either way. Is not actually getting at healing your pain or processing how you're feeling. Another maladaptive coping mechanism for rejection is choosing to date or hook up with someone who maybe you're not particularly interested in but you know they're interested in you as a way of boosting your ego.
