universal began looking for younger actresses whom they could groom to make cheaper versions of the kinds of movies montes starred in. Ivone was brought on to the universal lot to do a screen test to play a wolf girl in one of these movies. As she was passing through the universal offices into her meeting with the casting director, she walked past walter wanger. Wanger thought yvon resembled his wife, actress joan bennet,. whose transformation from blonde to a noir ready brunette wanger had overseen.
