Rishi Sunak's Words on Inflation Will Not Ease Political Pressure Facing His Government
Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has doubled down on his belief that inflation will be below 5% by the end of the year. Since March of last year, the interest rate on the average two-year fixed deal has trebled to 6%. That's led many politicians, including in Sunak's own party, to call for more support for those facing surging borrowing costs. Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell says Wall Street's biggest banks may have to increase capital requirements by 20%.
