Deacon Greenwood: Restorative Justice for Sexual Violence

Deacon greenwood works with survivors of violence to validate their experiences and support them in understanding their options. She has founded transforming justice australia, a survivor led restorative justice initiative for sexual assault. Restorative justice is really any process or opportunity where the victim and the offender and anybody else actively participate in the resolution of harms arising from the crime. In november, the victorian law reform commission recommended that restorative justice should be an additional option when the person harm doesn't want to report or pursue criminal prosecution. There are options for restorative justice once an offender has been convicted, but it is not a specialized practice for sexual abuse.
