The Trinity and Divine Simplicity w/ Dr. James Dolezal

Philosophy for the People

CHAPTER

Relations and Distinctions in the Trinity

In this chapter, they discuss the aspect of essence and essay in relation to the Trinity. They explain that the father and son are the same God, as they share the identical divine nature and act of to be. The only distinction between them is the relations they have. They also argue against the idea of the relations being accidents separate from the divine substance, as it would result in a quaternity instead of the Trinity. They emphasize that the Christian tradition, influenced by Thomas Aquinas, maintains the real otherness and alterity among the persons of the Trinity.
