The Limits of Intuition
Hoffman: Science is to take our assumptions, make them mathematically precise. Einstein and quantum field theory are theories that the basic intuition is that space time is fundamental. Theory that didn't capture your intuitions properly couldn't be used to prove they were wrong. But if it did capture them, then how could it possibly prove that the assumptions are wrong? That's so regular. And this argument also goes, by the way, with the argument I gave about evolution by natural selection. So we can play the same game of showing that I've contradicted myself.
