Culture and the Power of the Force and Fraud

Up until 1500 and thereafter, the big thing in history is going to come from an elite looking around and seeing that the society as a whole is hugely poor. The ideas that will be popular are more likely to be those that reinforce the force and fraud game than those that actually contribute to making a people more productive. I think you have to say, all right, suppose things do change. Suppose you're lucky enough to start to get out of that. What cultural things have to happen in order to induce people to actually focus on let's look for ideas that help us all to become more productive?
