The Relationship Between Lyrics and Singing

Lyrics are loaded with ideas and images, but you're kind of calmly singing. Can you talk about the relationship between the lyrics and your approach to delivering them? This is the first time i've tried singing on an album, aside from some backing vocals here and there. I was really, quite literally, just trying to learn how to sing as i went.
