The Labour Party's Struggle to Keep the Status Quo
I was horrified that the executive of the Transport and General Workers Union should simply have ignored the wishes of its members. I think it's a very bad day for trade union democracy, a very damaging day for the Labour Party. If their votes made the difference between Tony Ben being elected leader instead of Dennis Healy, well then it would be avery bad day for the prospects of the Labour Party winning the next election. You can't go on forever and ever, pretending your receptionist party when you're not confining yourself to attacks on the Tories when that's not enough. People want to know what the Labour Party will do. And the Tories are lucky because they don't have that problem
