NATO: Finland's Entry Into NATO
The Finnish flag was raised over the organization's headquarters on Tuesday, April 4th. After decades of a policy called non-alignment, Finland finally made a decision to apply for NATO membership last year in response to Russia's invasion of Ukraine. Both Sweden and Finland applied to join at the same time, although Sweden's application is currently delayed after objections by the Turkish government. While Finland's entry into NATO has been positively received in many western countries, the choice will anger Russia.
