The Oneness of Things
The possibility of having reason is that there is a fulcrum around which you can turn, and you can put things in relationship to one another. And he, in his flourishes, points to this one soul and this one world, but he's coming at it from the particulars and going towards the one rather than working down. So it's there, it gives direction, but he't not making any derive on whatsoever from there being a one thing and going down to many. In these essays, though, they all, in different ways, rely on this oneness, and yet don't treat it as the central subject matter yet.
