portal hypertension being the root cause and driver of so much of the bleeding that we too see in cirrhosis. E stands for encephalopathy which really occurs again due to the derangements of portal hypertension. SVP is some spontaneous bacterial peritonitis which can again occur even without an obvious intestinal source such as a perforated micro viscous. This will present potentially with abdominal pain, teneritus and fever but can also unfortunately be silent and asymptomatic.
