How to Get Satellites in Orbit
The way you can think about it is that the satellite is falling to the Earth, it slowly moves towards the Earth. But the Earth is falling away from the satellite or curving away from theatellite via the curvature of the surface of the Earth at the same rate and so the satellite never hits the Earth. To get satellites in orbit we need to give them perpendicular velocity which gradually diminishes as a result of frictional force. So if left alone they'll spiral into the Earth, and that's called decaying orbit,. You may have heard of that.
