The president of Afghanistan, when it fell apart, wrote a book called how to fix failed states. He's talking about countries in Africa and, you know, Somalia and so forth. The Taliban represent ground reality; this is a goat herder with an AK-47 who's marching on your city. You can pump all the propaganda about Ukraine that you want but at the end of the day they have to walk across minefields dodging Russian artillery.
